What is COST - DAFX?

• What is COST

COST (European Cooperation in the field of Scientific and Technical Research) is a framework for scientific and technical cooperation, allowing the coordination of national research on a European level. COST Actions consist of basic and precompetitive research as well as activities of public utility.
• COST G6 - DAFX

Digital Audio Effects (DAFX) is the name chosen for this COST Action and covers the use of digital signal processing, its application to sounds, and its musical use designed to put effects on a sound.
• COST-DAFX Objectives and benefits

The main objective of this COST Action is to provide a synthesis of what can be done in the digital processing of sounds in the form of computer algorithms and sound examples resulting from these transformations.

What can be found at this COST-DAFX www

Files are stored on pages according to the following structure.

DOC & REF page (general documentation and list of references).
Reports (written in Word or plain text) about general issues on digital audio fx, without implementation details or source code (source code -Matlab, DSP or C- is stored at a different page) and a list of references (contains a list of COST participants publications about audio fx, and a general bibliography on the subject).

SOUND files page.
Contains .WAV or .AIFF files in order to be used as test files for algorithms. A descriptive text (plain text) document must accompany each sample, describing number of channels, resolution, sampling frequency, contents of the recording, possible uses for the sound, etc.

MATLAB sources page.
Contains documented Matlab functions, together with assorted documentation, classified by effect families. Source files must be clearly commented and should be accompanied by a complete documentation file with description of input, output and parameters as well as operating principles and algorithm explanation. A Word template for this documentation files can be downloaded at the contributors page (it replicates the standard MathWorks documentation for Matlab functions). Also, sound files to allow testing of each function must be provided if necesary.

DSP sources page.
Contains documents and source code for realtime implementations on COST-DAFX supported DSPs (56000, DSP32, ...) or in standard C and relevant documentation, classified by effect families. Source files must be clearly commented and should be accompanied by a complete documentation file with description of input, output and parameters as well as operating principles and algorithm explanation. Also, sound files to allow testing of each function must be provided.
